Water Lines and AT&T Repairs
The City of Cocoa, which supplies water to Cocoa Beach and is responsible for the water pipes in Cocoa Beach, has sent the following report for our citizens. The problems are not associated with the opening of the new Starbucks.
The current state of the road at the corner of North Banana and 520
- There are two (2) separate Cocoa Water main breaks on North Banana River Blvd.; one located between the new Starbucks and the White Rose Shopping Center and the other one located one block north at the intersection with Columbia Lane; both in the northbound lane. In addition to, and coincident with the water line breaks, the adjacent AT &T conduit pipes were broken, allowing water to fill their conduit line(s) and the nearby manhole(s) they connect to. Two issues – 1) because AT & T’s manholes and conduits are now full of water at the water line break locations, the roadway cannot be properly patched until AT & T repairs their conduits; and 2) The City spoke to George Toler of Cocoa Water yesterday – they just recently went out for bid for patching all of their water line break locations. He informed the City that since they drained their large water tank for painting (which acts as a shock absorber for their water distribution system), they have had 57 water line breaks from late November through the first part of January.
If you have any questions please cal the City of Cocoa Water Department. If the City of Cocoa Beach receives additional information we will pass it onto Cocoa Beach residents.
