FROM DEVELOPMENT SERVICES
Department of Development Services
City of Cocoa Beach, Florida
Interim Policies to Minimize the Risk of Exposure and Slow the Spread of COVID-19
In an abundance of caution-and due to Brevard County issuing a local state of emergency, said state of emergency having been adopted by the City of Cocoa Beach on March 17, 2020, the City continues to take immediate and, hopefully, temporary measures in response to the outbreak of COVID-19. The following actions and/or policy changes are currently in effect within the Development Services Department.
Building Permits:
In an effort to limit face to face contact, discussions and permit information can be obtained by calling (321) 868-3217 or (321) 868-3298. Faxed information can be sent to (321)-868-3212.
Effective Monday, March 23, 2020, City Hall will begin to limit face to face contact with the general public. Doors will be locked; however, you may reach the department at the numbers listed above to discuss your individual issue and to determine whether a meeting is warranted. We are asking that those who wish to submit permits at City Hall adhere to the social distancing norms and to the Department’s designated distance from the front counter.
Building Inspections:
All inspection requests must still be scheduled. The number for scheduling inspections is (321) 868-3217. If the inspection is an in-home inspection (normally requiring entry into the home) building staff may call to determine if the inspection can be handled electronically via telephone, email, and photos.
All exterior residential inspections are still required. Exterior residential inspections will continue per normal operating procedure. Building staff retains the ability to adjust these inspections as deemed appropriate by the Building Official or his designee.
All commercial inspections are still required. Commercial inspections will continue per normal operating procedure. Building staff retains the ability to adjust these inspections as deemed appropriate by the Building Official or his designee.
Planning/Zoning Administration:
All persons with requests for assistance involving planning, site plans, variance requests, special exception requests, zoning letters of determination, or any other planning related item are to call (321) 868-3280 or (321) 868-3218 for information related to the above-mentioned items. The need for face to face meetings will be evaluated by the planning staff and the Director of Development Services during the time of these interim policies.
The public is also encouraged to use the City’s website for general information. That website is www.cityofcocoabeach.com.
For any additional information or questions, the Director of Development Services can be reached at (321) 868-3297.
We want to thank you for your understanding and cooperation while the current unusual circumstances continue to exist.
