COMMISSIONER'S CORNER:
Skip Williams
First, I want all of us to welcome our newly appointed Commissioner, Ed Martinez, he will serve until November 16th, 2016 to fill out the recently vacated term of previous Mayor Dave Netterstrom. Thank you Dave for your service as our Mayor. In addition, Commissioner Tim Tumulty will be our new Mayor on January 1st, 2016 and Commissioner Mike Miller will be Vice Mayor in alignment with our current rotation. Welcome Ed Martinez! I’d be amiss if I didn’t thank the other 17 qualified candidates that applied and were willingly to serve as our Commissioner. Thank you!
Pavement Resurfacing of both sides of A1A South of Minutemen Causeway will occur late next year per FDOT project plans. Thanks to the ardent efforts of our County and FDOT staff, additional funding was secured by grants to add new sidewalk to connect all of the sidewalks on both sides of A1A.
As we approach the New Year, we should plan to hold a workshop to agree on and solidify enhancements from the A1A Corridor study as proposed for Cocoa Beach. Then, we can solicit the FDOT to put our negotiated improvements into their five-year plan for funding consideration, maybe sooner. We need local support willing to “go to bat” and voice their opinions at the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) monthly meetings.
I hope you had an opportunity to enjoy the Cocoa Beach Christmas and Boat parades here in Cocoa Beach.
Merry Christmas and have a Blessed New Year! Again, I thank you for the honor of serving as your commissioner. (Email swilliams@cityofcocoabeach.com , skip williams, home phone is 783-1850)
