Commissioner's Corner: Skip Williams
COVID-19: We made it through a very challenging year. Many of you got vaccinated and we appreciate the efforts of City Staff and our Fire Paramedics for making vaccines available here in the city and especially for taking them to our homebound folks. Active cases in the city are continuing to decline and, if needed, our local hospital still has services and rooms available for those who may or will need them, for any reason.
Your City Management and staff has done a great job frugally managing our somewhat diminished income revenue this past year. Essential services remained fully staffed and significant projects forged ahead. Your new Police Station, continued canal muck dredging, several storm water management/beautification projects and Waste Water Treatment Facility upgrades, just to name a few. Hopefully, FDOT will install the recently approved, red/yellow/green light pedestrian crosswalks next year at Lori Wilson Park and up by Surf Drive and the Methodist Church.
Next fiscal year’s Budget Workshop has been set for June 29, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. in the Commission Room. This is by far one of the most important meetings for our city, but unfortunately is usually one of the least attended. Please consider attending and add to the discussions of how we can best appropriate your tax dollars and other city revenues to move our city forward and improve our quality of life here for the future.
