The Minutemen Streetscape project is progressing! A great deal of underground work on the north side of the street has been completed and sidewalk pavers are being installed. This project is threefold: a storm water project, a beautification project and a project to protect the lagoon from runoff. Phase 1 is from Cedar Avenue to Woodland Avenue and should be completed by April. Phase 2 will be from Woodland Avenue to Brevard Avenue. Once Phase 1 is completed it will be open for vehicle traffic. Thank you visitors and residents for your patience!
The City of Cocoa Beach Public Works Department has just completed the installation of solar channel marker lights at the entrances to all the main canals of our waterways. The lights have sensors and automatically turn on at night. Some of the lights can be seen from S.R. 520 as you drive in and out of town by the Hospital. You will see blinking red and green beacons on top of specific channel markers. They are a great aid to navigation for boaters at night and also add a little nautical ambience as you travel over the causeway in your car. The project was originated by the Waterways and Wildlife Advisory Board and permitted through the Coast Guard.
Ashworth Donates Lifesleds
The City of Cocoa Beach and the Cocoa Beach Fire Department (CBFD) would like to thank Peter and Sue Ashworth for their generous donation to the Cocoa Beach Fire Department Surf /Water Rescue Program. The Ashworth’s have donated funding over that past 2 years that covers the cost of 2 LifeSleds that are used in conjunction with Personal Water Craft (PWC) for water rescues on our beach areas as well as river areas. Mr. And Mrs. Ashworth are residents of Cocoa Beach but spend three months up in Northern Vermont on the Canadian border. “My wife and I feel that residents of any city or town should, in some way, help out where they can.” We in Cocoa Beach can’t thank them enough for the continued support that we get from them and look forward to training off shore for them to see their donations at work.
