City Sand Distribution

The City has secured sand for Cocoa Beach Residents. The sand is located at the Cocoa Beach Country Club. Limited staff will be available at the sand site.

Sand will only be available today!

·         There will be only 10 bags per vehicle.
·         Bring your own bags - Can be purchased at Ace Hardware or any other home improvement store
·         Shovel

Do not fill sandbags with sand from the beach.

Help Prevent Sewer Overflows in your Home and Neighborhood

With Subtropical Storm Nicole approaching the Florida Peninsula, forecasters are predicting a high level of rainfall within City Limits. The Water Reclamation Department is encouraging residents to help minimize the impact the rainfall may incur on the Sewer System.
Here are a few things our residents and business owners can do to help minimize impacts of sanitary sewer overflows or backups.

1. Limit Water Consumption to the greatest extent possible.

Perform Laundry duties today and tomorrow to minimize water usage during and after the storm event.
Begin using single service utensils (paper plates, paper cups, disposable cutlery) to minimize washing dishes.
Reduced shower times and turning off water while brushing teeth, washing hands, or shaving will minimize water into the sewer system

2. Make sure your home or business has a sewer cleanout cap intact so storm water can’t enter the sewer laterals.

3. Never flush these items down the toilet:

Feminine hygiene products
Baby Wipes/Wet Wipes/Cleaning Pads /Diapers
Dental Floss
Q-tips/Cotton Balls
Paper Towels/Tissues
Hair
Cigarette butts
Kitty Litter

When flushed down the toilet, these items bind together and may cause sewage backups in homes, manhole overflows and failures at sewage pumping stations, costing thousands of dollars to repair.

Only human waste and toilet paper should be flushed. Even though some products such as wipes and baby diapers may claim to be flushable, they are not.

The City appreciates the help from residents and business owners alike to help minimize the effects this storm may have on our Sewer System and the Environment.
