Storm Update

Hurricane Milton

October 7, 2024

Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall on Wednesday, October 9th, 2024. The City is working closely with Brevard County EOC as we monitor the storm's development.

Now is the time to prepare your homes for any potential impact. The City anticipates power outages and flooding, especially in areas near canals due to elevated river levels from heavy rains. Power outages may disrupt elevators and cause fire alarms to go off.

Sand Availability:

  • The City has received sand, available at the Cocoa Beach Country Club (east side of the building).
  • Please bring your own bags and shovels. Bags are available for purchase at Ace Hardware.
  • An additional sandbag site will open at 4:30 PM, exclusively for Cocoa Beach residents (ID required for access).  The location is the Cocoa Beach High School West parking lot.

Water Usage: Please limit water use to essential activities like laundry and dishes before the storm. The Waste Water Plant is near capacity due to increased rainfall.

Additional Preparations:

  • Remove signs and decorations from yards.
  • Secure outdoor furniture.
  • Stock up on non-perishable food, water, and gas.
  • Do not do yard work that creates debris. Keep all debris out of storm drains, as clogged drains can cause additional flooding.

We will provide updates on CBNN, Facebook, X, and the City's website as new information becomes available.

Waste Management

WM has engaged its hurricane preparedness protocol in advance of Hurricane Milton.  As of now, all Brevard County area operations are expected to continue as scheduled for Monday, October 7, and Tuesday, October 8.  Waste Management will remain in contact with Brevard County officials and Brevard County Solid Waste Management and advise if this should change, as well as advise on operations for Wednesday, October 9.
We encourage residents to visit www.WMFloridaStorm.com for service updates.
We ask at this time that residents do not place any large, loose vegetative debris piles curbside (clam piles), as it is unlikely they will be serviced before the storm.
