FDOT - A1A Crosswalks

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is enhancing pedestrian safety along State Road (S.R.) A1A from Crescent Beach Drive to south of Minutemen Causeway. In this area, S.R. A1A is split; northbound S.R. A1A is known as South Atlantic Avenue, and southbound S.R. A1A is known as South Orlando Avenue.

Safety upgrades are planned at six northbound and southbound pedestrian crossings. These crossings are located at South First Street, South Fourth Street, South Eighth Street, South 13th Street, South 16th Street, and 21st Street  (Summer Street).

The improvements include 10 Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs), two Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHBs), and two raised crosswalks. In addition, pedestrian curb ramps will be reconstructed to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. As an added safety feature the speed limit throughout the corridor will be reduced from 35 mph to 30 mph.

Please slow down and pay close attention to the new radar speed signs.

For the most current project details and lane closure information, please visit FDOT’s Central Florida website at www.cflroads.com.
