Things I notice while enjoying the summer
Those crazy, lazy, hazy days of summer are upon us. While we all love the sun, we don’t always appreciate the heat and humidity that goes with it. Fortunately, Cocoa Beach offers many opportunities for staying cool and beating the heat.
You can take your surfboard, umbrella, and chair to spend a day at the beach. Enjoy a swim in our community pool. Or, go kayaking, sailing, or fishing in the Thousand Islands nature preserve. In the evening, cool breezes are perfect for walking or biking on the beach. And by the end of a day, you can enjoy a cold drink or ice cream cone. I hope many of you are taking the time to enjoy our local amenities.
As I drive and bike around Cocoa Beach, I can’t help but notice the many improvements in our town. I am learning to appreciate the Minutemen streetscape in downtown Cocoa Beach. I notice benches for sitting and trees for shade. I notice street lighting for safety and security. And, I notice local restaurants adding sidewalk dining for our enjoyment.
I notice houses being renovated in our residential neighborhoods. I notice new paving and sidewalks being installed along A1A. And, I notice commercial signage that is more subdued and attractive – even the shark sign is sporting an improved look.
I am looking forward to other projects on the horizon:
A newly renovated Wakulla Suites hotel
A totally renovated Winn Dixie supermarket
A new Publix supermarket at Banana River Square
A new parking deck and police station
In the meantime, I hope everyone is staying cool and enjoying their summer.
