Commissioner’s Corner Vice Mayor Tim TumultyGovernment processes are Slow, Steady and Consistent. For example: simply moving a park bench requires: 1. A public announcement about a meeting 2. The meeting itself a. A motion b. A second to that motion c. Discussion amongst the commission d. Comments from the public e. More discussion amongst the commission f. Then a vote (To have a study done the first go around) 3. Another announcement for a meeting about the results of the study 4. Go to “2” and repeat 5. … I’m already exhausted and we haven’t even moved the park bench. Yes, this is an exaggeration, but only with respect to the park bench. Getting something done through government in an expeditious manner isn’t the purpose of government. As Commissioners we have issues brought before us. Our duty is to analyze the information, ask questions and then make a decision. For me, kicking the can down the road isn’t an option. I’m going to pick the can up and determine what should be done. What would you do with the can? Where would you put the park bench? These are things that I want to know! And no, I’m not really exhausted. More Information + Common Sense= Better Decisions I know that you can’t always make it to our meetings, so please email or call me and/or the other commissioners: 321-698-9552 ttumulty@cityofcocoabeach.com
