  1. Sustainability Information Session: Florida-Friendly Fertilization

    June 23, 2021, 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM @ City Hall

Dr. Bonnie Wells will be speaking on the topic of Florida-Friendly Fertilizers. Overview: Excessive nutrient loading to Florida’s waters from fertilizers applied to urban landscapes is one of the biggest water quality issues facing communities across our state. Reduction of landscape nutrient inputs into local waterbodies such as the Indian River Lagoon can be accomplished by using a comprehensive, Florida-Friendly approach to landscape nutrient management that combines the appropriate type, amount, and timing of fertilizer applications. This presentation will address fertilizing appropriately, one of the nine Florida-Friendly Landscaping principles— a set of guidelines that help protect natural resources while maintaining a beautiful landscape. Local ordinances will also be addressed, with alternatives to maintain healthy landscapes during the summer fertilizer ban presented.
