Business Tax Receipt (BTR)

A Business Tax Receipt (BTR), also called an Occupational License, is required for anyone offering goods or services to the public in Cocoa Beach.

  • A separate BTR is required for each place of business, whether commercial or residential.
  • Home-based businesses are permitted only for:
    • Sending/receiving mail
    • Phone-related activities
    • Bookkeeping or administrative work
    • Any home business that employs people other than residents of the home or attracts customers of vehicular traffic are not permitted. 
  • A Certificate of Use is required for all commercial locations

Applying for a Business Tax Receipt (BTR)

A BTR is tax levied on each business, occupation, or profession for the privilege of operating within the city limits.

  • You will receive a Business Tax Receipt (not a license) once the tax is paid.
  • Application can be submitted online via the City's portal.

Fee Information

  • Costs vary depending on the type of business of service.
  • A non-refundable $10 application fee is required for all original applications.

Required Information

Business owners will need to provide the applicable information on a pre-printed Business Tax Receipt application:

  • Applicant / Owner Name
  • Business Name
  • Business Mailing Address
  • Business Phone and Emergency Contact Number
  • Type of Business & Business Description
  • Social Security Number or Employee Identification Number
  • Fictitious Name Registration or Articles of Incorporation
  • Any State License / Registration Number and Expiration Dates
  • Any Professional Certifications
  • Type of Insurance (if applicable)
  • Retail Business Inventory
  •  Hotel / Motel License Number & Number of Units
